The program they cut was building their volunteer team.
Church · Vacation Bible School
THE PROBLEM
What was getting stuck
The church had cancelled Vacation Bible School (VBS). It consumed significant staff time and resources, with little change in church attendance or family engagement. An outside camp came in to run a weeklong family experience instead.
WHAT WE DID
The work
Using the Brain Build process, we analyzed the program’s role in the church and challenged the assumption behind the cancellation. The key finding: VBS had been acting as a volunteer-development engine. Its value was not just what happened during one week, but the people it helped bring into serving. We recommended bringing it back with volunteer development as the central goal, rather than treating it primarily as a weeklong camp.
THE GLITCH / THE FINDING THAT CHANGED THE DECISION
The program that looked like a drain on volunteers was actually helping grow the volunteer team.
WHAT CHANGED
The result
With volunteer development at the center, the restored VBS grew to more than 500 kids in three years and generated hundreds of volunteers.
LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS
Bring the question you keep coming back to.
“Where could AI actually help us?” “Why does this still take so much time?” “What should we change first?”
You don’t need to arrive with the answer. That’s where we start.
